Eversource Energy Engineer, Meter Operations (Hybrid) in New Britain, Connecticut

The Engineer for Meter Operations works on a variety of metering installations, including nonstandard, complex industrial and commercial, munici­pal, special contract, cogeneration, mandated load study and research metering installations. Establishes projects, designs installa­tions, specifies equipment for and evaluates bids, orders equipment, schedules delivery, estab­lishes requirements, coordinates and oversees installation, instructs, and trains staff and/or area metering personnel in test and installation of equipment. Plans, develops, and participates in the implementation of standardized and specialized policies, procedures, programs, specifications, methods, testing and requirements for electric metering on the Eversource System. Provides engineering and technical expertise to others.

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.

Essential Functions:

  • Explains concepts of new metering equipment to customers, manage­ment, engineering, computer, and technical personnel.
  • Reviews distributed generation projects to ensure metering is to Eversource standards and requirements.
  • Creates processes or procedures related to meter reviews and work orders
  • Provides engineering and technical expertise to field forces engaged in carrying out approved electric metering programs and procedures.
  • Oversees and participates in the test and evaluation of new meters and equipment and provides recommendations.
  • Studies, analyzes, and recommends use of new concepts in the art of metering.
  • Participates in the development of standardized test procedures and schedules for electric meters, associated metering devices, instrument transformers and test equipment in use.
  • Designs and develops for approval standard metering‑installation methods and procedures.
  • Provides functional and/or on‑site assistance, guidance and instruc­tion in the analysis and resolution of incorrect metering of an unusual nature, such as that resulting from defective equipment, improper installation, incorrect application, etc.
  • Provides engineering and technical expertise and counsel to other departments on the installation, operation and costs associated with meters and related equipment.
  • Participates in the development of metering requirements and proced­ures and the design of metering systems for interconnecting compan­ies, railroads, municipals, and sale for resale customers.
  • Provides work direction to lower‑level technical personnel in the performance of above and similar duties.

Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge of power systems, communications (Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP, etc.) and basic electricity
  • Ability to analyze data and information pertaining to electric metering, determine facts and make decisions accordingly.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of state and national electric codes.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization and with counterparts in outside organizations.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Three (3) plus years related experience is required.
  • Experience within a utility is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $94,000 - $105,000 plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
