Eversource Energy Working Foreman, System Machinist in Hooksett, New Hampshire

Role and Scope of Position:

Provides leadership for the construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment at Eversource. Machines, welds (MIG, Stick, and TIG) aluminum and steel, tests, repairs, installs, and maintains all types of mechanical equipment at substations and other facilities throughout the system. Performs work without direct supervision. Actively promotes and enforces a safety-first work environment and positive safety culture. Engages and motivates employees to deliver the best possible customer experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, schedules, and provides overall supervision and day to day troubleshooting for maintenance work related to the synchronous condenser fleet and related equipment.
  • Evaluates and initiates immediate repairs resulting from forced outages.
  • Recommends changes to existing systems and equipment, and/or related operating procedures to improve overall Substationperformance in the areas of safety, environmental, operation, reliability, efficiency, and availability.
  • Plans, major maintenance activities including overhauls, replacements, and installations.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other Substationdepartments, manufacturing and Eversource support personnel.
  • Organizes, prepares, and maintains records and reports on maintenance activities.
  • Reviews and evaluates the need for tools, parts, and materials for maintenance work.
  • Coordinates and oversees the need for spare parts and equipment needed at each facility.
  • Oversees assigned personnel training including required annual compliance training.
  • Has ability to responds to emergencies outside work hours.
  • Travel to various work locations and support team as needed.
  • Performs precision machining to manufacture and repair parts and equipment made from a large variety of materials.
  • Performs troubleshooting on mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs mechanical equipment such as generators, air compressors, pumps, and transmission and distribution equipment.
  • Welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Uses all available welding processes to fabricate and repair various types of equipment and structures.
  • Installs and repairs emergency power equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, refrigeration, and heating systems.
  • Performs sheet metal work, plumbing, pipefitting, and cabinet making.
  • Contributes to the development and fabricates prototype tools and mechanical devices.
  • Operates bucket trucks, corner mounts, fork trucks, and overhead cranes. Performs rigging and erects staging.
  • Performs nondestructive testing of metals and welds.
  • Interprets complex mechanical drawings, and performs calculations using trade book formulas.
  • Maintain filters, piping, and all mechanical components.
  • Perform maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Fabricate and install hardware.
  • Take vibration readings on equipment and interpret results.
  • Record vibration, temperature, pressure, voltage, and electrical readings.
  • Performs the duties of lower rated jobs in progression and other duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Familiarity with recognized and applicable national, state, and local codes.
  • Working knowledge of Substation operations.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a leadership role including the ability to: effectively plan, schedule, direct and review work; evaluate personnel; deal effectively with many different departments.
  • Ability to combine theory with practical experience, determine facts, analyze information, make decisions accordingly and resolve problems.
  • Ability to develop, assign and coordinate the maintenance activities of the equipment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable company policies, procedures, and practices.

Education: Vocational Technical College Certificate in Machine Tool Processes or equivalent. Associate degree in Machine Tool Processes or related experience.

Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience in related field.

Compensation and Benefits:

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Will be required to work overtime when needed,
